The MR2 Spyder rolls into 2002 with a new Formula One-style five-speed manual transmission. The only other change is that the yellow cloth interior has been discontinued.

Pros:
  • Well-balanced mid-engine design, scores high on the fun scale, awesome car to run hard on the track, affordability.
Cons:
  • Homely design, lack of cargo space, dated interior design, non-adjustable seats.

Ever since I bought this car people have been going wild over it. I cant pull out of a gas staion without somebody asking me what it is. It is off the charts in being a fun to drive yet fuel efficient car. Its like a go- cart with a glovebox.

I just got one a few days ago. I love it. I drove audi tt, bmw roadster, and then I drove this, and I just liked the feel alot more. There are cars with more power for sure, but I havent driven a car that corners like the mr2...corners like it is on rails.

  • Not as good as its predecessor - 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

I used to have a 1991 Toyota MR2 until January of this past year when it was taken from me in a rear end collision aka hit me going 70 while I was stopped. I purchased this vehicle thinking it felt so much like the last model. I was wrong. I am thinking about selling it now even though it has only been 11 months. It is so small, much smaller than the previous model. It also doesnt handle as well. Granted it is a good ride, but not as good as the 1991-1995 model year. I have spun out a couple times... once I ended up on the sidewalk... fishtails way too bad. Last car didnt have this problem. This car is too lite and not practical for a daily driver. Fun in good weather with the top down.

Great car but understand that it is not meant to be driven daily. Just getting stuff home from a food store is an adventure. Lordy, though, the adventure is incredible once you get out on roads with lots of curves. An amazing car. Great to look at, performance is fantasic. Body put together well, interior has some issues, things tended to just fall apart. Car has gotten louder in the interior as it has aged. But have owned lots of two seaters going back to MGs andTRs and it is an amazing car. Buy one!!

The exterior design is the big seller on this auto. Interior design is functional. I have the sequential transmission and hope that it works out well without high repair bills to come. Well see. Being a small vehicle you will feel all bumps in the road. It is quite noisy. I find the power to be acceptable, but then again I am not one to look for V8 power. Lack of cargo space is a big factor to consider before purchasing this auto. You simply have none. And I mean none. I am extremely happy and satisfied with it. I look forward to driving it every day. I would recommend it to anyone who can do without cargo space.

Bought used this year and got a yellow one with the 5 speed. (The other choice was Red with more miles) The first few weeks were a pain due to a faulty fuel line clip. (Fuel line popped off 2 times on the road. Not good) No more troubles after the clip was replaced. Absolute joy to drive, all the little imperfections melt away soon as I take the first corner. :) What a great little car.

  • MR2 Spyder meets Miata - 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

This is a very fun car to drive and the mid engine layout makes the car very agile. This also helps acceleration. The car almost always turns head and there are a few of them on the street. The fuel economy is great and this is an very affordable sports car. This car also beats the Mazda Miata, its rival roadster.

  • More fun than you deserve - 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

What a fun car to drive. Hugs the road like nothing Ive ever driven before. Fast little sucker with a great 5 speed sport shift. Took only a few times to get used to the shifting and once you do, youll never go back to manual. Stereo /CD/Tape player is more than adequate with the to down. Build quality and Paint finish are superb!
